Stress and anxiety can eat you up from the inside and impact both your body and mind. From your sleep to your happiness, mental illnesses can completely disrupt your life leaving you perennially exhausted and moody.
It can become difficult to deal with overwhelming emotions without help. To relax and make progress, you need to work on loving yourself and regularly giving your mind the rest it needs.
Having dealt with anxiety and insecurities for quite a long time, I decided to use a popular mobile application to help find some calm. With 4.4 stars on Google Play Store, Calm- Meditate, Sleep, Relax app is a mental fitness app that helps users connect to their mind and body. Reviews from users suggested that the app had helped them change their perspective towards life and improve their mental health.
1. Personalised Experience: When you sign up on the Calm app, I was asked the reason behind using the app. The options included the need to improve performance, better sleep, reduce anxiety, increase happiness, reduce stress, develop gratitude, and build self-esteem. This was followed by more questions, to create a personalised experience for the user. I highly appreciate the focus that the app puts on the user’s unique problems, rather than offering generic solutions that might or might not work.
2. Friendly Interface: The app offers reassurances to the user from time to time. When someone is going through a tough time, being gentle is key to helping them. When joining an app you would expect that you’d come across a professional interface that offers straightforward solutions. However, the calm app holds you through the process rather than pushing you. For this feature, the app must be given an extra point.
3. Smart Tools: Meditation and mindfulness are essential to calming the mind and finding mental rest. But it is difficult to train your mind to switch off when there are so many things to worry about. The smart tools in the app like soothing short stories, wallpapers, soundscape, instrumental music, educational masterclasses by experts on mental health, and yoga and exercise lessons to relax your body are all available on Calm. Using these smart tools has helped me find that much-needed seclusion from the outside world.
If you have been facing problems falling asleep, the app will help with that too!
4. Subscription: The Calm app can be used with a free or premium account. The premium account is the paid version and provides more features. It also offers a 7-day trial period for free, to help you decide whether you should get the premium version or not. The app is available in 6 languages in 190 countries.
Having used the Calm app for more than a month, I feel grounded and rejuvenated. Now I wake up every morning feeling rested and energetic to begin the day. While the work and life stress are pretty much the same, they affect my mood lesser. I plan on continuing to use the app, as even ten to twenty minutes spent using it fills me with great joy. My creativity has increased and I feel mentally healed.
Calm is a mental fitness app designed to help build strength to face life’s ups and downs. It is available at Google Play store and Apple store for free. I recommend the app to anyone who is struggling with their mental health or life stress. Hope this review was helpful.
